All About Elon Musk's 12 Children — And Why He Has So Many

Ashley St. Clair, who says she is the mother of one of Elon Musk's children, has accused the billionaire of withdrawing child support payments to punish her for "disobedience."

It comes after St. Clair said she sold her Tesla car on Saturday to make up for Musk's alleged 60 percent cut to payments, according to the The Daily Mail.

Newsweek has contacted Musk and St. Clair for comment outside of normal working hours.

      Why It Matters

Musk has never confirmed that he fathered a child with St. Clair, who filed a lawsuit in New York in February seeking sole custody of her son. In a separate petition, she is seeking a court declaration that Musk is the father.

The custody application included screen shots of texts St. Clair said Musk had sent, in which he allegedly told her he wanted to "knock her up again" and make a "legion" of new children.

      What To Know

Responding to St. Clair's claims on Monday, Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter: "I don't know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out. No court order is needed.

"Despite not knowing for sure, I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year."

St. Clair later responded: "Elon, we asked you to confirm paternity through a test before our child (who you named) was even born. You refused.

"And you weren't sending *me* money, you were sending support for your child that you thought was necessary... until you withdrew most of it to maintain control and punish me for 'disobedience.' But you're really only punishing your son."

St. Clair first announced the birth of her child in February, claiming that Musk was the father. She added that she had not previously announced the birth to protect the child's privacy and safety.

"Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child's privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause," she wrote on X.

"I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child's privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting."

In her New York lawsuit, St. Clair claims Musk has met her child on three occasions. It also claims she and Musk conceived the child during a trip to St. Barts in January 2024.

Musk is known to have 13 other children with three different women: his ex-wife Justine Wilson; the singer Grimes; and Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink.

      What People Are Saying

Ashley St. Clair wrote on X on Monday: "It's ironic that your last effort in court was to try to gag me while you use a social media channel you literally own to distribute derogatory messages about me and our child to the entire world. It's all about control with you, and everyone can see it.

"America needs you to grow up, you petulant man-child."

      What Happens Next

If the New York Supreme Court is satisfied that Musk is the child's father, St. Clair can then compel him to pay child support.
