Attempted murder accused to stand trial

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday committed Osafo Swain to stand trial at the High Court for the attempted murder of Ewart Blair, after ruling that a prima facie case had been made out against him.

The allegation against Swain is that on July 26, in Georgetown, he discharged a loaded a firearm at Blair, with intent murder him.

The chief magistrate made the announcement shortly after the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge.

Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore successfully maintained his objections to bail, citing the use of a gun in the alleged commission of the offence. That weapon, he noted, is yet to be recovered.

Moore also advanced his fears of possible witness tampering, should the defendant be granted bail.

Swain was subsequently remand to prison until his High Court trial.
